We’ve said it before in one of our very first blogs: you—the patient—are responsible for your list of medications and for making sure every healthcare provider you see has an updated copy.
Why is this so important? Because it helps prevent polypharmacy—the use of multiple medications that may interact or duplicate each other unnecessarily.
What do we mean by “your responsibility”?
Type up a list of your medications (or ask a family member to help) and store it on your computer. Print copies for your doctors. Update the list monthly. Be sure to include any allergies as well. Bring a new copy to every doctor’s visit.
Yes—it is your job. It’s your life, after all. Let’s not leave something so important up to chance or assume someone else will manage it for you.
You take control—and make sure others are informed.
