Avoiding Excessive Radiation During Your Pre Transplant Workup

At The #Kidney Group, we carefully consider the tests you are subjected to prior to a transplant, and work with the team to have our patients avoid unnecessary exposure to #radiation, and duplication of tests. We also choose lower radiation options when applicable.
What can the patient do? Work with your Transplant co-ordinator and keep a list of tests required so no duplication of tests occurs. If you are listed at multiple centers YOU DO NOT NEED a new set of tests. If you believe a test requested is a duplication, think you MAY have done a similar test prior, (we know it is hard to keep it all straight!) or have any question as to why it is required, talk to your nephrologist and your transplant team, or at The Kidney Group talk directly to our clinical nurse specialist, Barbara, explaining your concerns. As the article states, the most radiation came from nuclear stress testing, a very commonly done test even for non #transplant candidates. Screening testing determines which candidates are most suitable to undergo transplantation surgery. It is necessary, but must be done with precision. When in doubt-ask questions-it’s YOUR body!
