A Peritoneal Dialysis patient of Dr. Gabriel Valle is the first from the Kidney & Hypertension Group to be accepted to the brand new Paired Kidney Donor Program at The Miami Transplant Institute at The Miller School of Medicine/University of Miami. The diagram shows how this program works. It is an exciting addition to the type of Transplant services offered to patients in South Florida. Previously patients would have to travel to access such programs, which can be a burden for both patient and donor, in terms of traveling for testing and the time and cost involved-both pre and post op.
Dr. Valle’s patient found out she was listed for transplant on the same day she found out her husband, although not a match for her, was also accepted as a donor for the Paired Donor Program. Beatrice will be the first such patient for The Kidney & Hypertension Group, but certainly not the last. We will follow her story as the date (soon) approaches. Congratulations to all.
